About peelman.us

This is the personal blog of Nick Peelman. I’m a 20-something IT geek with a tendency to ramble and a passion for technology. This blog represents both a personal news outlet for me as well as a way to document some of my findings and/or experiences, typically centered around technology but I have bitched about politics and video games, (re)posted jokes and quotes, and given news & updates on my life to the handful of friends and family who actually follow my site on a regular basis. So you could say its kind of random :) The rest of the site is just a knowledge repository for me, the result of almost a decade of evolving my presence on the web and trying to make something of myself that started on Geocities oh so long ago.

About Me:

In June of 2008 I finally asked my girlfriend of over 4 years to marry me, and our wedding date is set for June 11, 2011. More info here (leave it to me to create a website for it…).

To occupy my time and keep me out of trouble, I am a Lab Administrator for Purdue University’s IT Conglomerate, ITaP (eye-tap). On the side, I do some freelance technical consulting for individuals and the occasional business. In early 2009 I started working on my first Open Source project, CoRD. At home, I manage a rather extensive network, which I have written a couple of posts about, and I maintain this website along with a couple of others.

I am grudgingly addicted to several TV shows, including all of the Stargate Series, House, The Unit, NCIS, Dexter, Criminal Minds, Battlestar Galactica, Californication, Entourage, Family Guy, The Big Bang Theory, True Blood, Terminator (TSCC), and have a bad habit of watching The West Wing and Studio 60 reruns until I get sick of them (which never lasts long, before you know it I’m back in awe of Sorkin’s prose).

I also play the occasional video game (XboxW-only household, PS3’s can die and rot), my current addictions are Rock Band 2W and Lego Star Wars: The Complete SagaW, though I am a Halo fiend and would be perfectly content if Halo 3 or Halo 3: ODST were the only games left on the planet (I just got sick of all the people with more time on their hands than me pwning my ass every time I signed on). I’m anxiously awaiting both Halo: ReachW.

When My thumbs are too tired to play and there’s no new episodes of TV DVRed, I read a lot. A lot of it is technical news, blogs and stuff, as well as several magazines and trade rags, but I usually have at least one or two fiction books I’m in the middle of reading. I have quite a bit of the Harry PotterW series committed to memory (I’m only partially joking…when they say Potter Crack they mean it), same goes for most of Tom Clancy’s novels. My brother got me into reading Clive Cussler’s adventure tales. Overall, my taste varies quite a bit.
